Six Important Things To Remember When You Have A Residential Air Conditioner Installed

Posted on: 30 August 2021

When you invest in a new air conditioner for your home, you need to make sure that it is properly installed. The following are six important things to remember when you have a residential air conditioner installed.

Air circulation is important around an air conditioner unit

An air conditioner unit needs to be located in a part of a home where air can circulate freely because air conditioners need fresh air to function properly.

This means that you want to make sure your air conditioner isn't installed in a tight area with walls or furniture surrounding it that could restrict its airflow.

You need to put your air conditioner in a place where damage is unlikely

While you want space to be relatively open around an air conditioner unit, you also need to make sure that there won't be too much movement or activity around it. Too much activity around an air conditioner unit can lead to impact damage.

Placing an air conditioner unit near garbage or other strong-smelling materials is problematic

An air-conditioning system will draw in air around the AC unit and circulate it throughout the home. If an air conditioner draws in air that is heavy with odors, these odors can be channeled throughout a home. That's why it's important to place an AC unit far away from garbage or any strong-smelling items.

Thermostat placement is an important consideration

Placement of the air conditioner unit isn't the only important consideration when it comes to installation. Another important consideration is where the thermostat is located.

The thermostat should not be placed too close to air vents or sources of heat. Proper placement helps to make the thermostat more accurate in controlling the interior temperature of a home.

An air conditioner unit needs to be placed far away from fire hazards or heat sources

If an air conditioner is installed near fire hazards, it could speed up the spread of harmful fumes throughout a home in the event of a fire. Also, installing an air conditioner near heat sources can detract from air conditioner efficiency.

You should be available during installation in case your AC service has a question

It's best to be present so that you can answer questions and provide any necessary assistance during air conditioner installation. If you cannot be present, you should at least be accessible by phone to clear up any uncertainties your AC service might have right away on installation day.
